Eynesbury Just Too Good
By Gary Tustin
Eynesbury beat SASS U17 to effectively claim the league title and leave SASS to ponder what next???
SASS needed to beat Eynesbury to go into their last match with a chance to claim the league title but came up short.
Eynesbury started strongly and raced into a two goal lead after twenty minutes. Not much to say about the goals other than avoidable.
SASS were offered a lifeline when a clear foul on Ollie B was rewarded with a spot kick. James’s soft penalty was saved by their keeper but he was able to net the rebound.
Eynesbury then scored a wonder goal on the stroke of half time making the second half look like a major uphill task for SASS to get the win they needed.
The second half began with SASS playing better and a wonderful cross field ball from Ollie F was placed first time by James across the keeper to get the score back to 2-3 with only three minutes of the second half gone.
George then had a glorious opportunity to draw the two sides level when presented with a one-on-one with the keeper who was able to thwart the SASS player.
This was followed by SASS conceding two sloppy goals in a five minute period and the title was gone. From almost being level to the game lost happened quickly but these are the fine margins at this level.
Two more Eynesbury goals made the score line convincing and in truth it was deserved. Eynesbury were just better. Better prepared, better drilled and showed more desire.
SASS need to rethink quickly before the cup final as a performance like this will be nowhere near good enough to be competitive against Thaxted.
I am sure that every effort will be made by all involved to finish the season on a positive note. There has been so much about the season so far to admire. One swallow does not make a summer so one bad result does not mean this has been a poor season. Far from it!
