Double delight for club

By Trevor Davies

It was double delight at the weekend as two Shelford & Stapleford Strikers’ teams were crowned league champions, with the senior side and the under-10s Whites both lifting their respective titles.

The Mighty Whites have clinched the under-10s C title with a game to spare and have finished champions for the second successive season.

The Avatars, who were crowned under-nine champions a year ago, won 6-0 at Whittlesford on Saturday to move three points ahead of their closest rivals Over, who had already completed their fixtures.

The Whites round off their campaign next week with a derby at Sawston United, where they will be looking to complete a clean sweep of victories in their 20 league fixtures.

Meanwhile, the Senior side beat Newnham Rangers 2-1 on Sunday to be crowned Cambs Sunday League Division One B champs and complete a double after lifting the Royston Scaffolding & Roofing Cup at Newmarket Town FC two weeks ago.

The Seniors clinched the title despite having three games left to play and remain unbeaten in the league this season.

If they can avoid defeat it will be the second time in three years that they have gone through a season and not lost a league game.
